Master Builders SA applauds the State Government’s commitment today to unlock more land and build at least 60,000 new homes across the fringes of Adelaide.
Land supply has been a major setback to Adelaide’s growth and a key driver in SA’s ever-increasing house prices.
MBASA recognised that the 12-year-old Environment and Food Areas (EFPA) zoning was a major factor in restricting Adelaide’s growth and created an artificial boundary around the city.
These new legislative changes will tear down that boundary and make housing more affordable, while creating jobs for our members and the broader sector.
The main areas of greenfield development are in line with the Greater Adelaide Regional Plan: Roseworthy, Two Wells, Murray Bridge, Victor Harbor and Goolwa – critical areas for home buyers to get into the market.
Thank you to Housing Minister Nick Champion for listening to and working with Master Builders SA, and also with UDIAs Liam Golding and the Property Council’s Bruce Djite on this issue.
While only a tiny percentage of South Australia’s Environment and Food Production Areas is affected, this is a major milestone and it’s great to know that key agricultural areas will still be protected.
And, as more homes come online and demand is diminished, Mums, Dads, families, first home owners and even renters will feel the difference – due to the increased supply and the lower cost of housing.
