Scentre Design brough great innovation to this challenging project located within a working shopping centre, particularly in relation to the water treatment and energy generation. The reuse and re-purposing of materials to achieve the desired “look” demonstrated the builders skill and leadership with regard to environmental considerations.

Heritage Construction

Winner – Thorne Constructions Pty Ltd: Lounder’s Boat House

Thorne have done an amazing job of resurrecting a condemned 100-year old dilapidated and termite ridden boat shed. The restoration work required a great deal of skill and innovation by the builder under close supervision of the heritage architect. Both the client and heritage architects are deligted with the result.

Winner – SA Construct Pty Ltd: AHMS

SA Construct developed an innovative custom fixing system on this project to achieve bi-directional curves as there was no such proprietary system. The finished project is a testament to a highly skilled design and construction team that undertake difficult projects, and in this case significant savings of more than $200,000 were passed on to the client. SA Construct is a worthy winner in this category.


Winner – Hindmarsh Plumbing Services Pty Ltd: AMNS

The pre-planning requirements for this plumbing project were enormous and a number of innovative plumbing solutions were employed due to the multitude of types of trade wastes produced by this multi-use building. An additional innovation was to install a reverse osmosis plant into a prefabricated building off-site and place the completed unit on the top floor of the 13-storey building. The planning and neatness of the finished plumbing for this building is a credit to Hindmarsh Plumbing.

Winner – Mossop Construction+Interiors: Pridham Hall, Uni SA

Mossop was engaged as managing contractor for the construction of this landmark building. Their early engagement enabled safety planning to be an integral part of the project and the use of BIM improved the work methods and safety outcomes. Mossop and the University are using this project as an introduction to safe work practices for their construction students.

This Manhattan warehouse-style home demonstrates how a high quality dwelling can be built on a small allotment. Construction using tumbled bricks on the street frontage, a semi-commercial pivot front door with translucent glazing and powder coated commercial windows are part of the desired style. Installation of low E-glazing on the northern and western elevations, strategically located windows in the bathrooms and a glass door in the laundry form part of the environmental components of this attractive and functional home.

Adelaide Designer Homes has done an outstanding job with this home and it is a great example of how very high quality construction can integrate heritage style elements and modern features into a new build. Attention to detail is clearly evident, particularly in relation to the quality stone facade and bullnose verandah. Heritage fretwork and v-joint quoins complement the streetscape. This contemporary 4-bedroom home has been finished to the highest level. It is both complex and functional and the cantilevered canopy front porch, polished stone elements, varied fascia heights and the installation of two gutter styles complements both the streetscape and the outdoor entertaining areas. The construction work assoiated with the 3.1m ceiling to the front of the home was also noteworthy.
