Urban Habitats

The judges felt that the transformation delivered by Urban Habitats Australia’s renovation project on the character villa incorporating a revitalised façade and large contemporary extension was flawless. The high calibre of workmanship required to execute the building works while maintaining the heritage of the existing home was exceptional and the flow from old to new seamless. This project was a standout and Urban Habitats Australia is a worthy winner of the Residential Builder of the Year for 2021.

Kennett

The projects presented this year by Kennett was of the highest quality. Their systems and processes that are diligently employed with their project management system wowed the judges as did the relationships they built and maintained with both the client and subcontractors before, during and after the build. In addition Kennett’s are to be recognised for their excellent innovation in construction methodologies and use of good quality Australian made materials in their projects. Young Builder of the Year 2021

Martin Round

The winner of the Young Builder of the Year Award represents the next generation of environmentally conscious and innovative builders. Don’t be surprised if on Martin’s building sites you see the young builder with his sleeves rolled up and digging trenches. His hands on approach and willingness to be involved in every aspect of the build, from design to completion, has already seen him awarded Master Builders SA excellence awards. Martin is always testing the status quo of building materials and processes and looking to construct buildings that last longer and create healthier more sustainable living. Excellence in a Contract Home $1m to $2m

Finesse Built

Finesse Built faced many site challenges that precipitated significant and numerous changes to the structural design. The building fabric required the builder to install significant piers and structural steel more commonly found in commercial buildings. One such element was the installation of a 6m span precast concrete bridge from the road to the upper level of the building. A truly remarkable building project and a worthy award recipient.

HiViZ Outstanding Woman in Construction 2021

Dena English

Dena has worked in the construction industry for 13 years, spanning across both civil and commercial sectors. Obtaining a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil & Structural) with first class honours, Dena was first employed by global commercial construction company, Multiplex. In 2015 she pursued a career in Quality, Work Health and Safety, joining Sarah Constructions as their QHSE Coordinator. Within two years Dena was promoted to QHSE Manager and has significantly decreased the company’s Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate from 12.85 to 1.55. A mentor for the Women Building Australia National Mentoring Program 2021, and studying a Bachelor of Law, Dena’s achievements, work ethic and contribution to the industry make her a worthy recipient of this award.

Tom Swaine

Tom owns his own painting and decorating business and has been working in the trade for the past 17 years. He has recently embarked on a project bringing a 120 year old house back to its former glory, applying the skills he has mastered from working in both the residential and commercial sectors. Tom has become a true craftsman and has decided to pass on these skills and work ethic, taking on an apprentice earlier this year.

Dylan Occhiuto

Dylan is a 3rd year carpentry apprentice that has shown himself to be an eager and punctual worker that is willing to extend himself to further his trade skills and career. Dylan’s attention to detail, his well-developed communication skills and his confident approach has been recognised by his current employer Mossop Group, who have promoted Dylan to Trainee Site Manager on the Monarto Safari Park Visitor project. Dylan’s passion to make his mark in the construction industry is evidenced by his mature outlook to his work and his plans for the future. Hansen Yuncken

Hansen Yuncken have demonstrated an impressively high standard in all areas of Work Health & Safety on the SkyCity Expansion project. To achieve such excellence over a 29 month duration in a location surrounded by many demanding stakeholders is truly admirable. The Hansen Yuncken team delivered outstanding innovation with the systems and processes they had in place, including a dedicated site induction room, controls of silica risks and worker engagement and communication protocols. Kauppila

Kauppila have been instrumental in the rebuild of their local community after the devastating 2020 bushfires on Kangaroo Island. As part of the Western Kangaroo Island Community Recovery project, they developed new technologies, optimised spending on the island and supported local employment and skills development.  Project has over 75% Kangaroo Island Content with only 10.8% of the materials sources from interstate. The Built project team have set a new standard for Environmental and Sustainable Construction in the Adelaide industry with this GPO Exchange project. Built’s commitment and diligence has been further recognized by the achievement of WELL v1 certification for core and shell at the Gold level, and 6 Star Green Star Rating. The judges agree that the GPO Exchange project is a true example of how far construction delivery and building innovation has come in the commercial sector, with the overall building seamlessly connecting heritage architecture with a contemporary 20-storey tower, while achieving environmental and sustainable outcomes.

Woolcock Construction

The 10-Star energy rating house is an outstanding example of what can be achieved in construction when the right team is on the job. This home by Woolcock Construction has been developed for occupant comfort, occupant health and low energy consumption and the design has been delivered exactly as intended. Woolcock Construction embarked on this sustainable residential project with limited experience in the specific construction techniques required to achieve 10 Star house rating, however, they displayed tenacity and willingness to learn, which resulted in this highly insulated and airtight home. An exceptional outcome for both builder and client.

Urban Habitats

This transformation is a credit to Urban Habitats Australia, as they have delivered a stunning renovation project. The Character villa façade that now addresses the street was ‘revealed’ during the project’s striking renovation and extension. The high calibre of workmanship required to execute new contemporary building works sympathetically to the existing home is evident and testament to the skills of the specialist contractors Urban Habitats Australia engages as part of their extended project team. Glasshouse Projects

This beautiful contemporary renovation by Glasshouse Projects to a turn of the century return veranda villa located in Rose Park is perfection. An incredible bespoke floating timber room with timber features flowing from inside to outside and a minimalistic feeling of structural support. The judges were especially impressed with the beautiful finishes and care taken to ensure the highest possible result for the very happy clients. The subtle touches meticulously executed made this property a pleasure to visit and a tribute to Glasshouse Projects.

Thorne Constructions

This high-end residential renovation by Thorne Constructions is a stunning contemporary extension that compliments the existing heritage home. A key design and construct project that included a custom designed open plan kitchen, living and dining space that leads to an outdoor living area and concrete pool. All aspects of this project were highly successful, with no variations, completion was on time, and a high-quality build that resulted in an extremely pleased client.

Scott Salisbury Homes

Scott Salisbury Homes faced many site challenges with this renovation on a very tight site which required exceptional project management and close collaboration between the client and builder. This project required materials to be sourced to match existing materials throughout the home with every room in the house impacted during construction to create a light filled modern home, beautifully designed to complement the existing bungalow. To say the client was very satisfied with the outcome and management of the renovation is an understatement.

This inner city cottage renovation by Spacecraft Design + Build was an exceptional example of a quality build within extremely tight site constraints.
