This nationally recognised qualification is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to effectively manage Work Health and Safety (WHS) systems within the construction industry.

It teaches you the essentials: incident response, managing claims, and hazard identification. This is a practical program with projects and assignments you can integrate into your existing role or organisation. Upon completion you can assist with workers’ compensation claims, rehab and return-to-work programs. 

Delivered in partnership with Swinburne University of Technology, this program offers a streamlined and industry-focused pathway to achieving a BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety, tailored specifically for construction professionals in South Australia.

The course is structured to minimise time away from site, with just six workshop days supported by guided self-paced learning. This delivery model provides a fast-tracked pathway compared to many traditional programs, while still ensuring participants develop practical, job-ready WHS capability.

TOPICS COVERED INCLUDE:

    • Implementing and monitoring WHS policies, procedures, and programs

    • Identifying hazards and managing workplace risks

    • Investigating incidents and applying corrective actions

    • Supporting return to work processes and injury management

    • Managing compliance with WHS legislation and regulations

    • Contributing to workplace consultation and communication on safety matters

    • Understanding psychosocial hazards and risk management

SKILLS YOU’LL LEARN:

    • Managing workers compensation claims

    • Plan and produce documents

    • Manage external WHS contractors

    • Understand how to comply with WHS laws

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Students are required to have at least 12 months of relevant work experience and access to a suitable workplace, including relevant WHS policies, procedures and processes, to meet performance evidence requirements and complete the assessment tasks for the embedded units of competency. Students must also have access to working professionals in the WHS industry to collaborate with in order to complete assessment activities.

DURATION:
Runs over 6 months, with an induction session in August, followed by 6 workshop days from September to February, supported by self-paced learning and workplace-based assessment activities.

The blended delivery mode involves a series of workshops to cover theory and coaching sessions addressing industry contexts. Participants complete a webinar induction, e-Learning modules, four clusters over a total of five days, and will submit assessments online via the e-learning system, Canvas.
