MBASA Welcomes NCC Exemptions

Master Builders SA (MBASA Welcomes NCC Exemptions) commends the Federal Government for listening to our industry and taking action to reduce unnecessary red tape. These roadblocks have been slowing down residential builders from delivering much-needed homes.

The reforms which were announced yesterday by Minister for Housing, Claire O’Neil, include fast-tracking assessments and approvals while, at the same time, reducing delays and regulatory burdens for builders.

For many builders, it often takes longer to get approval for a home, than to actually build one.

The industry is also particularly pleased to see that the Federal Government will now pause and streamline the National Construction Code (NCC).

In October 2024, South Australia’s Government, in consultation with Master Builders SA, took measures to pause any further changes to the NCC for a decade to ensure stable building conditions and long-term certainty for the industry.

Master Builders SA believes these changes will not affect the quality or safety of houses; rather it will give the industry some confidence it needs to meet the $43 billion National Housing Accord.

“Master Builders SA welcomes and commends the government for taking decisive action to address unnecessary red tape and support the industry to get on with building more homes,” said Will Frogley CEO of Master Builders SA.

“Master Builders SA has worked hard with the South Australian Government to address State-specific issues with the National Construction Code and pause further changes over the next 10 years.”

“Constant regulatory change makes it more difficult for builders in an already complex and costly system, so a reduction in regulation is always welcome,” said Mr Frogley.
