Finesse Built provide considered home design and quality construction in the one team, ensuring that the process of building your new home is as seamless as possible. A case in point is their recent Victoria Avenue project, which presented challenges that required the team to innovate in terms of both design and construction methodology.

Given the prominence of this site located on one of Adelaide’s most prestigious streets, the home’s contemporary design needed to reference the surrounding heritage streetscape. The Finesse team managed the entire design and construction process of this property from inside to out, resulting in a landscape that perfectly complements the unique design of the home and the site on which it is built, and a perfect balance between space and light.

With ceilings and rammed earth walls from 3m to 4.5m in height, the home’s scale is impressive, yet it still feels homely as requested by the client due to its use of natural materials like the hand-crafted spotted gum ceiling. Central to the main living area is the 4.3m off-form curved island bench and the 1000m bottle capacity regulated wine room. A strong intent behind the design and build of this home was to maximise the amount of natural light that floods the home. Where natural and artificial light is manipulated to accentuate space, a greater understanding of the architecture is gained.

Space and light affect humans in biological and psychological ways, both of which can be influenced by good design and clever styling. While good lighting creates the illusion of more space, it can also affect the way an entire project is perceived from the first step inside. The installation of 3.6m high glazing in the family area provides the perfect outlook through to the pool and tennis court, both of which were part of the full landscaping package delivered by Finesse. This view from the heart of the home has a positive impact on the mood of those who enter the space.

With the ability to impact the tone, structure, and dimensions of a room, the way in which we utilise a combination of natural and artificial lighting must be taken into consideration from the very beginning of the design phase. The vision of the homeowner is an integral part of our process. The Finesse Built process is made up of six clearly outlined steps to ensure a perfectly streamlined and totally collaborative design and construction process, from the first conversation, right up until post-handover maintenance.
