In what has been a tumultuous year, Master Builders SA congratulates the Malinauskas Government for delivering a stable, steady Budget.
“It’s the Budget you would expect from a firmly entrenched, centrist government in the first year of a four-year term,” Master Builders SA CEO, Will Frogley said.
“There was no need to take big risks, and they haven’t.
“No nasty surprises on Budget Day is a consistent theme of the Malinauskas Government, which is a marked contrast with what we’ve seen elsewhere.
“The Budget is focused on election commitments, especially housing, infrastructure and skills, all of which is badly needed.
“Increased debt is necessary to fund important social infrastructure like Torrens to Darlington.
“Overall, today’s Budget provides a solid foundation for growth, but sustained collaboration between government and industry will be essential to ensure South Australia can build the homes, infrastructure and jobs needed for the decade ahead.
“To achieve our housing targets and the large infrastructure projects, thousands more skilled workers are required. This can only be achieved through a combination of more apprentices and skilled migrants.
“We appreciate the Government’s strong backing of the nation’s leading apprentice attraction program, Born to Build.
“At a time when there are severe shortages in the private sector, a freeze on non-frontline public servants makes complete sense. There’s plenty of work for South Australians in building in construction!
“Master Builders SA will continue to work with the Malinauskas Government to ensure the industry has the workers and materials to build much-needed houses and infrastructure.”
